The Coming World Realignment

I love to read the PINR. They seem to be very objective. In the article that I am recommending, we can see how a unipolar world is no longer possible. And guess what event might have proven it…The war in Iraq!!

Please read on

Marco,

I'll have to read this slowly, digest it, and bounce it off of several other thinkers to really understand it.

I do have an initial - gut - reaction. I have read and heard thousands of times from foreign soruces about US domination of the world and I have always thought it bogus. The premis behind this paper seems to be that the US cannot dominate the world. Duh.

If the US ever could dominate militarily it was in 1947 when we had the ability to produce atomic weapons. Our homeland was untouched. Our productive capacity exceeded the rest of the world. The Russians and English were exhausted. The Chinese were using swords as their primary weapon. Germany, France, and Japan were devistated.

The US hasn't dominated economically since the mid-70's due to Japan, the Oil Cartel, the Dutch, and the English. Now comes China, Isreal, Korea, and South America.

I'll put my mind to it.

Dr Marco: It's been a long time since I stopped by your site. I'm glad to see you're still blogging, even if infrequently.

I'm writing a book for kids about ancient civilizations (part of a kids' encyclopedia series). I'm just gotten up to the Americas, the final chapter, and now up to the Moche and Chavin cultures. This made me think of you.

I've always wanted to visit Macchu Picchu, and will one day, but now I have added two more ancient sites to my long list.

Just wanted to stop by and let you know - Peru made me think of you! I hope you are well.

Marco,

I like material like this. No bashing. No value judgements. Just pure analysis with stated assumptions.

I recently completed some related training on strategic planning, war gaming, and scenario planning.

I find the content, format, and feeling of this article to be consistent with the tools and methods I study and use in one of my consulting jobs.

One observation:
- You accurately wrote that the war in Iraq may have been the force that undoes an unipolar, world as stated in the article.

- I can't help but a remember rather recent comment I heard from a UN strategic planner. He said something like "... we forecast the drivers and conditions using perception, we don't forecast the event...".

To provide examples he then said something like "... we forecast everything about Gorbachov except the scar; and we forecast everything about the war in Iraq except the nations and the date..."
